"And all the spotted and speckled flocks shall be yours, Jacob." The story of Jacob unfolds with the palm trees representing an oasis, a "watering place," a well where he met his beloved Rachel. The grid represents his dream of the ladder reaching to heaven where God reminded him that the land he was on was a covenant blessing from God Himself.

Since he was third in the line of patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, there are three scallops on the flange of this pillow. Soon Jacob became the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. Thus, the twelve scallops around the pillow's edge represent the fulfilled prophecy that his seed "would spread to the North, the South, the East and the West, and in them all the familes of the earth would be blessed."
